Developing and implementing CCESD in schools and organizations or agencies must be based on environmental policy and planning. CCESD may be prepared as a stand-alone course or more pragmatically integrated with existing curricula in almost any subject area by examining the general and specific objectives. This way existing topics can be viewed from the perspective of sustainable development and research topics may be selected for problem-solving to build adaptive capacity. This will also build capacity for students and employees to access a wide range of jobs that deal with the planning, analysis, design, and administration of policies and programs that affect the natural and man-made environment.
